Pues si es as\u00ed tus datos \u2013y los de tus tarjetas de cr\u00e9dito\u2014pueden estar comprometidos.<\/p>\n<p>La gran cadena de almacenes identificada ir\u00f3nicamente como \u00bfTarget \u2013que significa \u201cblanco\u201d u \u201cobjetivo de un ataque\u201d\u2014fue v\u00edctima de lo que quiz\u00e1s sea el segundo mayor ataque y robo de datos financieros que haya sufrido una tienda jam\u00e1s en la historia, con un estimado de 40 millones de personas afectadas \u2013aunque en algunos medios se lee que pueden ser hasta 70 millones. El ataque m\u00e1s grande comprometi\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 90 millones de registros, en las tiendas TJ Max, en diciembre de 2006.<\/p>\n<p>El ataque afect\u00f3 a personas que realizaron compras en dichas tiendas en todos los Estados Unidos desde el 27 de Noviembre hasta la primera quincena de diciembre. El procedimiento utilizado no ha sido dado a conocer, pero ya otros grandes almacenes, como Neimann-Marcus, han empezado a  aceptar que tambi\u00e9n fueron afectados.<\/p>\n<p>Algunas de las razones para este fraude masivo son responsabilidades de la industria financiera incluyendo la reticencia de la banca a aceptar el uso de chips en las tarjetas de cr\u00e9dito y d\u00e9bito, en lugar de las bandas magn\u00e9ticas. Obviamente otras razones pasan por las pol\u00edticas de seguridad de los datos dentro de las empresas como Target. <\/p>\n<p>Entre los prop\u00f3sitos de enmienda de Target, la tercera cadena de ventas a l detal de US, est\u00e1 el promover entonces el uso de tarjetas con chip, y combinar esto con el uso de contrase\u00f1as numericas o PINs \u2013Personal Identification Numbers&#8211; uno de los m\u00e9todos m\u00e1s econ\u00f3micos y seguros de la industria.<\/p>\n<p>Las leyes federales hacen que las perdidas por parte de los compradores sean m\u00ednimas, limit\u00e1ndose en muchos casos a s\u00f3lo US$50 en las tarjetas de cr\u00e9dito, pero pueden llegar hasta US$500 en las tarjetas de d\u00e9bito, dependiendo del banco y de la empresa. Mientras tanto la banca trabaja apresurada cambiando tarjetas que creen fueron comprometidas, e implementando medidas restrictivas al gasto en tarjetas de cr\u00e9dito y d\u00e9bito que incluyen limitaciones a los retiros en cajeros autom\u00e1ticos, a los gastos en el exterior y m\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p>Una vez que esto est\u00e9 m\u00e1s avanzado, quiz\u00e1s los delincuentes empiecen a buscar otras formas de utilizar los n\u00fameros de tarjetas obtenidos, incluyendo el seleccionar los n\u00fameros extranjeros, para usarlos en mercados extranjeros.
