Todo esto en un paquete con bajos requerimientos energ\u00e9ticos, de apenas 70mW. Pero lo m\u00e1s novedoso no es esto, sino el hecho de que este sistema es capaz de procesar los datos proevenientes de sensores de forma paralela, en manera muy parecida a la del cerebro humano.<\/p>\n<p>Este esquema introduce variantes a la computaci\u00f3n tradicional, ya que hasta ahora un gran poder de c\u00f3mputo ha significado siempre un gran consumo energ\u00e9tico.  El Dr. Dharmendra S. Modha, Director cient\u00edfico de IBM, se\u00f1ala que este chip es capaz de funcionar con la bater\u00eda de un aud\u00edfono para personas con incapacidad auditiva, una gran referencia para saber que tan bajo es el consumo del nuevo chip, que ha logrado la atenci\u00f3n \u2013y US$53 millones de presupuesto para investigaci\u00f3n y desarrollo\u2014por parte de la agencia de defensa de los EUA. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPodemos adivinar nuevas generaciones de sistemas de informaci\u00f3n tecnol\u00f3gicos \u2013que complementar\u00e1n los sistemas actuales basados en [la arquitectura de] Von Neumann \u2013sustentados en un sistema en desarrollo de sistemas, software y servicios. Estos chips inspirados en el cerebro pueden transformar la movilidad, gracias a aplicaciones inteligentes con sensores, que podr\u00e1n caber en la palma de la mano y no requerir\u00e1n WiFi\u201d afirm\u00f3 Modha en un comunicado de la empresa.<\/p>\n<p>Por supuesto esta nueva arquitectura necesita muchas cosas nuevas, entre ellas un nuevo lenguaje de programaci\u00f3n, que IBM est\u00e1 soportando a tarv\u00e9s de un programa educacional llamado la Universidad Synapse.<\/p>\n<p>Aunque IBM a\u00fan no anuncia socios en este programa, si ha logrado desarrollos interesantes, interconectando hasta 16 de estos chips, construyendo el equivalente a un \u201ccerebro\u201d con 16 millones de neuronas, un n\u00famero algo bajo comparado a los poco menos de 100.000 millones de neuronas en un cerebro humano, pero lo suficientemente prometedor para intuir grandes avances en el corto plazo en m\u00faltiples aplicaciones.<\/p>\n<p>El bajo consumo de estos chips es sin duda la gran noticia, ya que permitir\u00e1 juntar muchos de ellos sin generar problemas de consumo ni de calor. Con sus 5.400 millones de transistores, resulta asombroso que este chip funcione con apenas 70mW, gracias a su concepci\u00f3n diferente \u201cen tiempo biol\u00f3gico real\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Pronto estoy seguro que seguir\u00e9 <strong>hablandodeti<\/strong> IBM, de tu tecnolog\u00eda SyNAPSE y de los avances que nos traer\u00e1 a todos.
